Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant has been banned for one match for violating the IPL code of conduct. Pant's team bowled at a slow over-rate during the 56th match of IPL 2024 against Rajasthan Royals. This match took place on 7 May 2024 at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
This was Pant's team's third offense of the season under the minimum over rate related offenses under the IPL code of conduct. Hence Rishabh Pant was fined Rs 30 lakh and banned for one match. Now the rest of the playing XI, including influential players, have been individually fined Rs 12 lakh or 50 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever is lower.

As per Article 8 of the IPL Code of Conduct, Delhi Capitals filed an appeal challenging the match referee's decision. After this the appeal was sent to the BCCI Ombudsman for review. Lokpal conducted virtual hearing of the case. After this the decision of the match referee was considered final and binding.
Such slow over rates are penalized in IPL
Under the IPL code of conduct related to slow over-rate, if a team captain commits a first-time offence, he will be fined Rs 12 lakh. If the captain commits a slow over rate offense for the second time in the IPL season, a fine of Rs 24 lakh is imposed. On committing the mistake for the third time, the captain is banned for one match and fined Rs 30 lakh.
Delhi Capitals is still in the race for the playoffs. Delhi is fifth in the points table with 12 points from 12 matches. Delhi Capitals will play its next match against RCB on May 12. Rishabh Pant will not be able to play in that match.
