Minimum temperature recorded in Srinagar: It is extremely cold these days across North India. There is severe cold in the atmosphere from the capital Delhi to Kashmir. In which the coldest night of this season was recorded so far in Srinagar. In which the temperature fell to -8.5 degrees Celsius and there was severe cold in the city. According to the Meteorological Department, Srinagar recorded the third lowest temperature so far in the month of December.
Cold wave warning in many states
Shopian plains in south Kashmir was the coldest area, recording a minimum temperature of -10.0 degrees Celsius. Anantnag city also recorded a cold night with the minimum temperature at -9.9 degrees Celsius and Pulwama city at -9.5 degrees Celsius, while Larnau recorded -9.1 degrees Celsius. In the coming days, cold wave warning has been issued in many states including Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Chandigarh.
How is the situation in Kashmir and Ladakh?
Zojila was the coldest place in Kashmir, where the minimum temperature was recorded at -24.0 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature was recorded at -8.2 degrees Celsius in tourist destination Pahalgam. Nyoma in Ladakh region recorded -24 degrees Celsius, while Drass recorded a night temperature of -14.2 degrees Celsius. The capital Leh recorded a minimum temperature of -11.8 degrees Celsius, while Kargil also recorded a minimum temperature of -13.8 degrees Celsius.
Meteorological Department’s forecast for the next two days
The Meteorological Department has predicted snowfall in the higher reaches between December 21 and 23, while Jammu and Kashmir is likely to experience severe cold till December 28. Due to severe cold in the morning, taps froze in many areas and people had to supply water by heating pipes. Due to the severe cold, most of the water bodies including some parts of Dal Lake froze.
Cold wave in Himachal Pradesh
According to IMD, there is a possibility of snowfall on the high peaks of Lahaul Spiti, Kullu and Chamba on December 23. The weather department has issued orange alert for Hamirpur, Mandi, Una and Bilaspur and yellow alert for Kullu, Chamba and Kangra.
