The health department has become alert after several cases of Chandipura virus were reported in Gujarat and Rajasthan. So far, 9 cases of this virus have been reported in four districts of Gujarat. Out of which three cases are of people who have come from other states. However, Gujarat Health Minister Rishikesh Patel says that there is no need to panic, but vigilance is necessary.

The health minister said Chandipura is not a new virus. Its first case was reported in Maharashtra in 1965 and every year many cases are reported in Gujarat as well. Chandipura virus causes symptoms like fever, encephalitis and body pain. The virus is a member of the Vesiculovirus genus and is spread by the bite of an infected mosquito, tick or sandfly.

Main causes and symptoms of the spread of the disease
According to Health Minister Rishikesh Patel, this disease spreads due to the bite of infected sand flies. It mainly affects children between 9 months and 14 years of age. It is mostly found in rural areas. Its main symptoms are fever, diarrhea, vomiting, headache. If these symptoms are seen, then a doctor should be consulted immediately.

So far, 6 people have died due to Chandipura virus in Gujarat. But the health department says that these deaths have not been confirmed due to Chandipura virus.

The state health department is taking full caution in this matter. So far, more than 400 houses have been inspected and more than 19,000 people have been screened. The health minister says that it is not contagious.

Although the Chandipura virus does not spread rapidly, complications such as meningitis can be fatal. Therefore, it is important to consult a doctor straight away if symptoms such as fever, vomiting or headache appear.
