News India Live, Digital Desk: There is very important news for the government departments, contractors and beneficiaries of various schemes of Jharkhand. The Finance Department has made a major change in the deadline for government payments and Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) at the end of the financial year 2025-26. Now instead of March 31, March 30 has been declared the last working day of the financial year. This means that all pending payments and transactions will now have to be settled within the stipulated deadline of March 30 only.

Mahavir Jayanti holiday became the reason The main reason behind this sudden change is the holiday of ‘Mahavir Jayanti’ falling on 31st March. Since government offices and banks will remain closed on that day, the Finance Department has fixed March 30 as the last day based on the guidelines of RBI. Additional Director of Finance Department, Sandhya Gupta has issued strict instructions in this regard to the Deputy Commissioners, treasury officers and banks of all the districts.

Transactions will take place only till 6 pm According to the new timetable, all types of government e-payments and payments can be made only till 6 pm on March 30. At the same time, the cut-off time for processing DBT payments has been increased from 12 noon to 3 pm, while the return session will be closed by 6 pm. Payment will be accepted only for e-payment files received in the SFTP server till 10 pm. After this, no transaction of any kind will be recorded in the accounts of this financial year.

There will be direct impact on contractors and beneficiaries The last hours of the financial year usually involve a rush to pay bills and adjust accounts. This change may come as a shock to those contractors whose bills are still in process. Also, beneficiaries of schemes like old age pension, scholarship and Kisan Nidhi, who get money through DBT, will also have to keep the deadline in mind. Clear instructions have been given to the departments to clear all their pending bills before the deadline of March 30 so that the new financial year (2026-27) can start smoothly.
