Warsaw, August 19 (HS). Danish cyclist Jonas Vingegaard of Team Visma won the 81st Tour de Pologne in Krakow, Poland on Sunday.

The final stage, stretching 142 kilometres from Wieliczka to Krakow, ended with a peloton finish, with Dutchman Olav Kooij (Visma-Lease a Bike) taking the stage win. Kooij outpaced Belgians Tim Merlier (Soudal Quick-Step) and Gerben Thijssen (Intermarche-Wanty) to take his fourth stage win at the Tour de Pologne, and his second in this year's edition after his previous success in Prudnik.

On the final day Vingegaard had a 13-second lead over Italy's Diego Ulissi in the general classification. Sunday's race went without any major surprises, as four cyclists initiated a breakaway but were recaptured by the peloton three kilometers before the finish. Vingegaard crossed the finish line comfortably within the peloton, ensuring his overall victory in the general classification.

Italy's Diego Ulissi (UAE Team Emirates) and his Dutch teammate Wilco Keldermans joined Vingegaard on the podium.

“I am very happy with the win. I decided to compete in Poland because it was a World Tour race. My goal is to compete in the biggest competitions, so I am here. I feel really proud. Now it is time to take a little break,” Vingegaard told media after the race.
