As soon as the holy month of Saavan begins, shouts of ‘Har-Har Mahadev’ and ‘Bam-Bam Bhole’ are echoing all around. During this time, Kanwariyas from every corner of the country are moving towards their respective destinations carrying holy Ganga water. But two real brothers from Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh have presented such a difficult and supernatural example of their immense faith and devotion towards Lord Ashutosh, that everyone has been stunned to see it. These two devotees of Shiva have left for their hometown from Haridwar carrying the holy Ganges water, but instead of walking, they are moving forward lying on their stomachs the entire way i.e. doing ‘Dandavati Pranam’ (Dandavati Kanwar). The total distance from Haridwar to his village is about 260 kilometers, which he is completing through this extremely difficult practice.

Even the heat of the roads, blisters on hands and feet and physical fatigue are not able to shake the steadfast courage of these two young brothers. Amidst the scorching sun and rain, they move ahead by lying down on the road one meter each, then stand up, mark the place and start prostrating from there again. Local people and passers-by say that while a common man gets tired while walking a few kilometres, the devotion and physical strength of these brothers seems no less than a divine miracle. A huge crowd of villagers is gathering at various places on the way to see his difficult penance.

Both the brothers say that all this is possible only because of the immense compassion and blessings of Lord Bholenath. He believes that when there is true devotion and complete dedication towards God in the mind, then no pain or obstruction of the body comes in the way. In the villages lying on the way, local residents and social organizations are working day and night in the service of these brothers like Ram and Lakshman. Flowers are being showered on them at various places and special arrangements for refreshments, food and rest are being made for them.

The prostration journey of these two brothers bringing water from Haridwar is a direct proof of how deep the faith in God is in Sanatan culture. As the month of Sawan is progressing, the crowd of Shiva devotees is increasing on the Kanwar routes. Even at the administrative level, medical camps and police pickets have been deployed at various places for the safety and health care of such dedicated Kanwariyas, so that their holy journey can be completed safely without any hindrance.
