'Dana' reaches Digha beach, trees uprooted, 10 lakh people displaced

The cyclonic storm that arose from the Bay of Bengal hit the coast of Odisha late last night. According to the Meteorological Department, Cyclone Dana is still making landfall. The cyclone passed near Dhamra and Bhitarkanika in Odisha at a speed of 120 kilometers per hour. Due to the cyclone, it is raining with strong thunderstorms in many areas of Odisha and Bengal.

Cyclone has reached West Bengal

After making landfall near Dhamra and Bhitarkanika in Odisha, the cyclonic storm has now reached Old Digha beach in East Medinipur in West Bengal.

Chief Minister of Odisha reviewed

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Mazi monitored the situation from the state emergency control room in Bhubaneswar before Cyclone Dana hit the state coast in the Bay of Bengal. He said that state ministers and officials are assessing the situation at the ground level and ensuring all arrangements.

In view of the possible impact of Cyclone Dana in Odisha and West Bengal, schools and other educational institutions have been instructed to remain closed on Friday. Educational institutions have also been ordered to remain closed in some parts of Jharkhand.

About 10 lakh people were displaced

Around 5.84 lakh people have been evacuated so far in Odisha as a precautionary measure to prevent loss of life and property following Cyclone Dana. Whereas in West Bengal, more than 3.5 lakh people have been identified to migrate from low-lying areas.
