Paris, July 24 (HS). The Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) unveiled its official motto, “Africa welcomes, Dakar celebrates”, here on Tuesday.
The motto, which highlights Senegal as the first African country to host an Olympic sports event and then emphasises the role of the entire continent, was introduced by the Dakar 2026 Organising Committee (YOGOC) at the ongoing 142nd session of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
“The motto is designed to capture the essence of African hospitality and the festive spirit of Dakar, inviting the world to share and celebrate together,” said Christy Coventry, IOC member and Chair of the YOG Dakar 2026 Coordinating Commission.
Dakar 2026, running from 31 October to 14 November, will see the world’s top young athletes participate across the three host venues of Dakar, Diamniadio and Sailly, with the aim of transforming Senegal through sport and setting an example for future YOG hosts.
During the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, YOGOC plans to engage fans with cultural and sporting events at the Africa Station at Lille-Saint-Denis and with broadcasts, workshops and activities at the Parc Georges-Valbonne.
