New Delhi, 22 October (Hindustan Reporter). Cyclone Dana may hit the coasts of Odisha between Puri and Sagar Island on the evening of 24 October. According to the information released by the India Meteorological Department on Tuesday, the pressure over the Bay of Bengal is gradually moving towards west-northwest at the speed of four km per hour. It is very likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a cyclonic storm over the eastern Bay of Bengal by 23 October 2024. The storm may continue to move north-westwards and intensify into a severe cyclonic storm over the north-west Bay of Bengal around 3 pm on October 24. Around 6 o'clock this storm will cross the coasts of North Odisha and West Bengal between Puri and Sagar Island. After 12 midnight, winds will blow as a severe cyclonic storm with speed ranging from 100-110 kmph gusting to 120 kmph in these areas.

Meanwhile, the administration has made all preparations in the affected places of Odisha and West Bengal. Schools in these areas have been closed. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning not to go into the sea. Especially a warning has been issued for fishermen not to go into the sea till 23-25 ​​October.

The storm will affect these areas

The IMD said heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in West Bengal over East and West Medinipur, South 24 Parganas and Jhargram districts on October 24 and 25. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, North 24 Parganas, Purulia and Bankura districts on October 24 and 25. Along with this, orange alert has been issued for heavy to very heavy rain with storm and lightning at different places in Puri, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Kandhamal and Gajapati districts. Apart from this, yellow alert of storm with heavy rain and lightning has also been issued for different places in Bhadrak, Balasore, Jajpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar.
