Cyclone Asna: Gujarat is witnessing heavy rains and floods. Roads from Ahmedabad to Vadodara and Kutch to Dwarka are submerged in water. The most affected area is Vadodara, where many residential complexes have been submerged. Meanwhile, Gujarat is about to face another blow of nature. There is a threat of cyclone over Kutch. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has instructed people to protect themselves from the cyclone.
There is a threat of cyclone in Kutch district. According to the weather department forecast, a cyclonic storm is going to hit Kutch in the next 24 hours. The deep pressure active over the Bay of Bengal is likely to strengthen instead of weakening. Therefore, strong winds will blow in the entire state including Ahmedabad. There is news of rain on Friday (August 30) in Kutch affected by heavy rain and floods. Mandvi received more than 11 inches of rain, causing waterlogging all around. Mundra also received about 6 inches of rain.
An alert has been issued in view of the strong waves of the cyclonic storm on the Kandla coast of Gujarat. Meanwhile, the authorities have started rescue operations in the area.
Meanwhile, the rain situation improved slightly on Thursday, but the flood water has not receded in many areas including Vadodara city after continuous rain. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel conducted an aerial survey of Kutch, Jamnagar and nearby Devbhoomi Dwarka districts to assess the damage. Officials said that light rain occurred during the day except the coastal areas of Kutch and Devbhoomi Dwarka districts.
Instructions to evacuate people from Kutch
A cyclonic storm may hit Kutch in the next few hours. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel reached the Gandhinagar State Emergency Operations Center from Vadodara on Thursday night. He took stock of the preparations made for the upcoming cyclone from the District Collector of Kutch. The Chief Minister has directed to evacuate people with immediate effect wherever necessary to save people from this disaster. In the meeting held through video conferencing, the Chief Minister directed that every possible effort should be made to evacuate the people.
Prime Minister Modi took stock of the situation
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also spoke to CM Patel and took stock of the situation. Rains wreaked havoc in the state on August 26 and 27 and 26 people died in rain-related incidents.
According to a release issued by the State Emergency Operations Centre, Mandvi taluka of Kutch district received 469 mm rainfall in the last 36 hours till 6 pm on Thursday, the highest in the state.
