When did major attacks happen in India?
In May 2017, WannaCry ransomware attacked dozens of countries around the world. More than 2 lakh systems were affected. This included India as well. Hackers locked computer systems and asked for $300 to $600. The US health care system was the most affected in this attack.
After this, on 22 March 2018, a message came on the computer of the head office of Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam in Panchkula. The message said that your computer has been hacked. In return, a demand of Rs 1 crore was made, which was to be deposited through bitcoin. However, the corporation restored the system within a week.
This was followed by a ransomware attack on Telangana and Andhra Pradesh state power utilities on April 29, 2019. The hackers then took over the system completely and demanded ransom via Bitcoin. However, the system was later restored.
