TRAI's new guidelines: According to the new rules of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, telecom companies will have to compensate customers if the telecom service is down for more than 24 hours. These new rules will come into effect after 6 months.
The amount of fines was increased
According to the new rules of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, companies that do not fulfill all the quality standards will also have to pay a fine. Under which the amount of fine has been increased from Rs 50 thousand to Rs 1 lakh.
Know how consumers will get relief
If a telephone service is down for more than 12 hours, it will be considered as one day. In case of network outage, telecom operators will have to give discounts on bills for postpaid customers and extend the connection days for prepaid customers. Telecom operators have been given a week's time to fix their services.
The amended rules have prescribed category-wise penalties of Rs 1 lakh, Rs 2 lakh, Rs 5 lakh and Rs 10 lakh for various violations of norms under the Quality of Service Standards (wireline and wireless) and Broadband (wireline and wireless) services standards.
