Gorakhpur, July 17 (HS). With the help of International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), paddy and wheat farming in eastern Uttar Pradesh will be future-friendly. This will reduce the cost of farming and increase productivity. In this direction, IRRI has started working on a research project with Mahayogi Gorakhnath Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Chowk Maafi PPganj and Gorakhnath temple's 500-acre farm located at Chowk Bazar (Maharajganj). Pleasant results of this project are coming out. IRRI got direct sowing of paddy done this season on a part of the farm located at Mahayogi KVK Chowk Maafi and Chowk Bazar, Maharajganj. This has not only freed the crop from weeds, but has also saved the cost of transplantation.

A team of scientists led by Dr. Sudhanshu Singh, Director of IRI's South Asia Regional Center (Varanasi), inspected paddy cultivation at the farm located at Chowk Bazar on Wednesday and evaluated the results of the experiments/research conducted so far. After inspection and evaluation, Dr. Sudhanshu Singh said that direct sowing of paddy was done on a part of the farm with the help of machines in time. Due to this, weeds have not grown in the crop. Direct sowing has saved the cost of transplantation. Weed growth during transplantation is also a common problem. He said that if direct sowing of paddy is done on time, the cost will be reduced by 10 to 15 thousand rupees per acre. Along with this, the problem of weeds will also be solved.

According to Dr. Sudhanshu Singh, Regional Director of IRI, International Rice Research Institute, in collaboration with Mahayogi Gorakhnath KVK, is working on such paddy cultivation techniques that reduce methane emissions, reduce the cost of fertilizer and irrigation and increase productivity qualitatively and quantitatively. For this, research is being done on many varieties of paddy. He told that research has revealed that wheat sowing should be done on time. If wheat is sown after 15 November, the productivity falls by 40 to 45 kg per hectare per day. Dr. Sudhanshu told that IRI is also working on a special project on mixed cropping and mixed farming in eastern Uttar Pradesh.

Research is being done on the cultivation of Kala Namak rice with Acharya Narendra Dev Agricultural University. Along with this, advanced, climate smart and biofertilized rice varieties, which have high zinc content, have also been planted in the vertical cafeteria. The initial results of all the projects have been pleasant and encouraging.

While inspecting paddy cultivation on the farm located at Chowk Bazar, Dr. Sudhanshu Singh was accompanied by former Drug Controller General of India, Dr. GN Singh, Senior Associate Scientist of IRI, Dr. Ashish Kumar Srivastava, President of Mahayogi Gorakhnath KVK Chowk Mafi, Dr. RK Singh, Scientist Dr. Shailendra Pratap Singh, Registrar of Mahayogi Gorakhnath University, Dr. Pradeep Kumar Rao, etc.
