Meerut, September 10 (HS). Chief Development Officer Nupur Goyal said that if farmers make organic fertilizer from crop residue instead of burning it, then they will get abundant yield and their cost will be reduced. The incidents of burning of crop and garbage are being monitored by the government through satellite, for which there is also a provision of levying a fine of Rs 2500 to 15,000.
A farmers' seminar was organized by the Department of Agriculture, Meerut on Tuesday at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Agricultural University regarding crop residue management such as not burning paddy straw, garbage and sugarcane leaves and measures for better management. The program was presided over by Chief Development Officer Meerut Nupur Goyal. Director Extension of Agriculture University Modipuram, Dr. PK Singh said that a huge farmers' fair will be organized at the Agriculture University from 16 to 18 October, in which all farmers should participate.
Deputy Agriculture Director Nilesh Chaurasia told about 80 percent subsidy on agricultural equipment related to crop residue management. District Agriculture Officer Rajiv Kumar Singh along with senior scientists of Agriculture University discussed technical points with the farmers. 400 farmers participated in the seminar. Problems and suggestions were put forward by the farmers. An exhibition of various advanced agricultural equipment was also organized in the seminar.
