Left-arm spinner Tabraiz Shamsi has refused to accept a central contract from the South African Cricket Board. He has taken this decision to play more actively in T20 leagues around the world. However, Shamsi will still be available to play for South Africa in major bilateral and ICC tournaments in the whiteball format.
“I have decided to withdraw from my central contract,” Shamsi said. I want to improve my game in the domestic season so that I can take advantage of all the opportunities available. I want to take care of my family in the best possible way. Shamsi also expressed hope that he will be able to play the World Cup in future. Before Shamsi, New Zealand players like Kane Williamson, Devon Conway and Finn Allen had rejected the central contract offered by their cricket board for the next one year. The South African board said that we respect Shamsi's decision and will remain committed to his dedication to African cricket and his home team the Titans through international performances.
