Amidst the Border-Gavaskar series, Cricket Australia has taken an important decision and changed its Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The board has now handed over this responsibility to Todd Greenberg. Thus, Nick Hockley is now relieved of his responsibility, having held this position for a long time. He announced in August that he would step down at the end of the domestic season in March 2025.

Nick Hockley stepped down

He got this responsibility in May 2021. He successfully organized his visit to India amid the Corona pandemic and all related travel and other restrictions. Cricket Australia also got a lot of financial strength by hosting this series.

What did Greenberg say on his appointment?

On his appointment Greenberg said, ‘I am delighted to have the opportunity to play such an important role in Australian sport and to be involved in a sport I have loved since childhood. It is a very exciting time for cricket as the game is growing rapidly around the world and creating amazing opportunities. At the same time, some challenges are also emerging to keep Australian cricket at the pinnacle of the game.

Greenberg played as a top-order batsman for Sydney between 1987 and 1997. He also gained some solid experience in sports administration, including running the Mike Whitney School of Cricket while he attended the University of NSW for a sports science degree.

Greenberg was also the former chief executive of the National Rugby League. He worked with one of his clubs, the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs. He also joined the Australian Cricket Association in January 2021. In this role he negotiated with Hockley and agreed the current Memorandum of Understanding for cricket, which outlines how money is distributed in the game and how women’s wages should be increased.
