Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has given a big relief to those taking LPG connection. Union Minister Puri clarified that there is no time limit for doing eKYC for LPG cylinder. He has given this answer in response to the letter of Leader of Opposition in Kerala Assembly VD Satheesa on the social media platform.
This process has been going on for more than eight months
Satheesan said in a letter that KYC is necessary, but the requirement for the concerned gas agencies to do it causes problems for regular LPG customers. To this, Hardeep Singh Puri replied that to eliminate fake accounts and prevent fraudulent booking of commercial gas cylinders, oil marketing companies (OMCs) are implementing eKYC for LPG consumers. However, Puri clarified that the eKYC process has been going on for more than eight months.
Only eligible customers get LPG service
He said, the only purpose is to ensure that only eligible customers get LPG service. Explaining the process, Puri said that gas agency employees verify the customer's documents at the time of delivery of LPG cylinder. The person delivering the cylinder receives the customer's Aadhaar credentials through an app on his mobile.
The whole process involves receiving an OTP on the customer's registered mobile number, using which the process can be completed. Customers can also contact the distributor's showroom as per their convenience.
There is no time limit to complete eKYC
There is also an option that customers can complete their KYC process themselves by installing the apps of oil marketing companies. Puri said that there is no time limit for completing eKYC by the oil marketing companies or the central government.
The companies clarified that the customer does not need to visit the showroom of the LPG distributor for this task. He said that the oil companies are also issuing clarification on this matter to reassure the customers and ensure that no genuine customer faces any problem or inconvenience.
