Mumbai: When the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) visited film shooting locations in Mumbai, many foreigners were found working without the required visas and documents. Several FRRO officials and Mumbai police reached the shooting location. The action was taken after the Cine Employees Association raised its voice against the lack of scrutiny while giving film work.
In April, the FRRO and the Bureau of Immigration issued an advisory in this regard. The authority allows foreign nationals to come to India on visas for purposes other than employment and to participate in film shootings.
As per the Foreigners Order 1948, foreign nationals need a valid visa to work in India. Employers of foreigners must obtain permission from the concerned municipality or FRRO to employ them.
However, many foreigners work in films and TV and send money to their country. Working in another country without a visa is not allowed. There is a nexus between suppliers and coordinators here. B. N. Tiwari, president of the Federation of Western India Cine Employees, said.
