Rio de Janeiro, May 11 (HS). Star footballer Neymar has been dropped from the 23-man Brazil squad for the Copa America due to a knee injury. The Brazilian Football Confederation gave the above information on Friday.
Neymar has not played since rupturing the cruciate ligament and meniscus of his left knee in October and the 32-year-old is unlikely to be fit for the tournament starting on June 20 in the United States.
Manchester United midfielder Casemiro and Tottenham Hotspur forward Richardson are also out of the squad, having struggled with poor form and injuries at their respective clubs.
As expected, manager Dorival Junior has included Real Madrid-bound Palmeiras young forward Andric in his 23-man squad.
Andric, who will turn 18 in July, scored for Brazil in a 1-0 win over England at Wembley Stadium and a 2-2 draw against Spain at the Santiago Bernabeu in March.
Brazil will open its Copa America campaign against Costa Rica in Los Angeles on June 24 and will also face Paraguay and Colombia in the group stage.
Brazil's team for Copa America is as follows-
Goalkeepers: Alisson, Ederson, Bento.
Defenders: Danilo, Yann Coutou, Guilhem Arana, Wendell, Beraldo, Marquinhos, Eder Militao, Gabriel Magalhaes.
Midfielders: Andreas Pereira, Bruno Guimarães, Douglas Luiz, Joao Gomes, Lucas Paqueta.
Forward: Andrić, Ivanilsson, Gabriel Martinelli, Raphinha, Savinho, Rodrigo, Vinicius Jr.
