Madhya Pradesh Tourism: The vibrant state of Madhya Pradesh is called the “Heart of India”. It is home to the cultural and spiritual heritage of almost all religions. ◆ Tourist Island – Home of an Innovative Activity,
Sailani Island, on the banks of the Narmada River and Omkareshwar Dam in Khandwa district, is close to the Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga shrine, where Sailani Island offers visitors a serene retreat with resort accommodation. The site is spread over 5 acres of land and is surrounded by the sacred Narmada waters on three sides.

The island is away from all the hustle and bustle of the city and is full of natural beauty and water activities. Apart from spending peaceful time at the lavish resort, one can enjoy exciting water based recreational activities available here like speed boating, surfing, paddle boating and cruising.

Gandhi Sagar is a small town in Mandsaur district of Madhya Pradesh, situated on the banks of Chambal River. The city is famous for the Gandhi Sagar Dam, one of the largest dams in India. This dam was built in the year 1960 on the Chambal River and is used for irrigation, power generation and flood control. The city is also known for its natural beauty and peaceful environment. At this place you can enjoy exciting water based recreational activities like speed boating, surfing, paddle boating and cruising.

Places worth visiting: Places worth visiting near Gandhisagar Dam include Mandsaur Fort, Gandhisagar Sanctuary, Chaturbhuj Nala, Buddhist Caves, Dharmarajeshwar Temple, etc. The backwaters of Gandhisagar Dam especially during the summer season creates a mini Goa like destination which lasts for 4 months of the season and is visited by thousands of tourists and locals.

  • By Air – The nearest airports to Gandhisagar Dam are Udaipur airport at a distance of 225 km and Indore airport at a distance of 280 km.
  • By Railway – Its nearest railway station is Kota at a distance of 104 km and Ratlam railway station at a distance of 212 km which is connected by rail to all the major cities of the country.
  • Madhya Pradesh Tourism has developed its own resort called Hingloj Resort on Gandhisagar Dam. Which is the only asset of this dam. For the convenience of tourists, recently an event called Gandhisagar Floating Festival was organized by Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board and a tent city was also constructed there.
