President Draupadi Murmu on Wednesday evening during her Indore visit saw Chanderi, Maheshwari sarees made of silk and cotton prepared by weavers on handloom at Mriganayani Emporium. She discussed with handicraftsmen, weavers and tribal artisans of tribal area and appreciated their art. During the discussion with these artists, she said that there is a need to cherish and preserve our old culture and tradition. These artists are contributing well in this. They need encouragement so that these artists can get employment opportunities.

On this occasion, the President was also presented with handicrafts made by the artists. All these artists are experts in their field and have a unique identity at the national level. All these artists were very excited to meet the President and are very happy that they got the opportunity to meet Draupadi Murmu, who holds the highest post in the country. Governor Mangubhai Patel, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav and Managing Director of Small Industries Corporation and Secretary of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Department Dr. Navneet Mohan Kothari were also present on this occasion. These artists presented the material made by them to the President. On the request of these artists, the President also got photographed with them.

During a discussion with Dhar district artisan Mubarik Khatri, the President inquired about his art and asked him since when he has been doing this work. Mubarik Khatri told that his 11 generations have been doing Baag print work. He is also teaching this art to the coming generations. He also demonstrated how Baag print can be done on cotton cloth and told that now Baag print is also done on bamboo and silk sarees.

Alauddin Ansari, a weaver from Maheshwar in Khargone district, told the President about the handloom saree that has won the National Award. He said that the rays of the sun fall on the Narmada river at noon and the waves that shine in the river are printed on the borders of the handloom sarees. The President was very impressed with this art. She asked how long he has been doing this work. Then Alauddin Ansari told that his family has been doing this work for generations. At present, he is providing employment to more than 300 people through this work, which also includes 70 women.

The President was very impressed by the art of Gond mural artist Padma Shri Durga Bai Vyam, who is currently a resident of Bhopal and originally from Dindori, and praised her for working to keep the culture and art alive and promote it. Durga Bai said that she is teaching this art to children and is also training other people in this art free of cost through an organization.

Seeing the dolls made by artist couple Padmashree Ramesh and Shanti Parmar of Jhabua district, the President asked them whether these dolls were made from clay. Then these artists told that they make attractive dolls from cotton and cloth. They also give free training to other people to keep this art alive. They told that all the dolls they take to markets and fairs are sold.

The President saw the sarees made on handlooms at Mriganyani Emporium and was pleased to see their craftsmanship. She enquired about the names and patterns of the sarees from the women employees working there. Chanderi, Maheshwari, cotton and silk sarees were shown to her and they were explained in detail. The President requested the women employees there to choose a light coloured saree of their choice for her. Sarita Gavade chose a light pink coloured Maheshwari saree for her. The President also made digital payment for this saree by visiting the counter through UPI. The digital payment was deposited by counter employees Kavita Bhilware and Vipul Singh. The President was shown sarees and silk clothes by women employees Aruna Rapotu, Sadhna Shukla, Sangeeta Shukla, Meena Chaurasia and Vandana Kothari. On the occasion of the President's interaction with handicraft artists and observing their art at Mriganyani Emporium Indore, Chief Minister Dr. Yadav also presented a Chanderi saree to the President on behalf of the state.
