Continuous efforts are being made to eliminate sickle cell disease: MP Lalwani

Indore, June 23 (HS). On the occasion of International Sickle Cell Awareness Day, a state level workshop was organized on Sunday at Abhinav Kala Samaj Gandhi Hall, Indore. In the event organized under the joint aegis of Advanced Homeopathic Medical Research and Welfare Society and Ayush Medical Welfare Foundation, the speakers expressed their views on the severity of the disease, symptoms, preventive measures and treatment. MP Shankar Lalwani, MLA Ramesh Mendola and Mahendra Hardia, Councilor Vijayalakshmi Anil Gauhar were specially present in the workshop. The keynote speakers were Prof. Dr. Ravi Ashok Dosi, Associate Prof. Dr. Vaibhav Chaturvedi and Simran Mirwani, Dr. DN Mishra, Dr. Bhupendra Gautam. The program was chaired by Dr. AK Dwivedi, member of the Scientific Advisory Board of Central Council for Research in Homeopathy.

In the workshop, MP Shankar Lalwani said that sickle cell disease is more prevalent in tribal areas. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is concerned about eliminating this disease and the government is making continuous efforts to eradicate it.

MLA Mahendra Hardia said that the central government is continuously working on sickle cell. Linking blood test to the old times, he said that our elders used to look at the gotra before marriage and did not marry if the person belonged to the same gotra. The reason for this was that if there was any disease including sickle cell in marriage, then there was a risk of it going to the next generation. But now we must get the blood tested before marriage to prevent diseases like sickle cell from going to the next generation.

Dr. Ravi Ashok Dosi presented his views on the topic of Approach to a Patient with Breathlessness (Special Reference to Anemia) through a PowerPoint presentation. He told what things should be kept in mind while examining a patient. Regarding breathlessness, he said that people should take it seriously. While examining a patient, the cause of breathlessness, place, environment and emotional factor should also be seen so that treatment can be given according to the complete condition of that patient. Anemia due to lack of blood also appears like asthma in 25 percent of people, in which the patient gets completely cured only by treating his anemia.

Dr. Dwivedi, who was presiding over the program, said that all the doctors, social service institutions and the public will have to cooperate in the vision of the Government of India to make India anemia free by 2047. Sickle cell disease is a very serious, incurable and generation-long disease. Unless awareness along with pre-marriage blood test is made mandatory, it will be impossible to prevent the disease from passing on to the next generation. Treatment of sickle cell has not been possible by any medical system till now, but homeopathy treatment is reducing the pain and unbearable suffering of patients suffering from sickle cell disease. Many patients have been treated through homeopathic treatment, who are living a normal life without blood transfusion.
