New Delhi, May 16 (Hindustan Reporter) The Supreme Court has issued a notice of contempt of court against DDA Vice Chairman Subhashish Panda in the case of large-scale cutting of trees in the Southern Ridge area of Delhi. Expressing displeasure over the misleading affidavit of the DDA vice-chairman, a bench headed by Justice AS Oka issued the contempt notice.
The DDA vice-chairman had said in his affidavit that 642 trees were cut without his knowledge. After considering this affidavit, the Supreme Court said that now DDA cannot be trusted. Justice Oka said that I have been a judge in the Constitutional Court for more than twenty years but have never seen such a misleading affidavit. The court said that knowing that not a single tree would be cut without the court's permission, the cutting of trees continued for ten days.
In the contempt petition filed in the Supreme Court, it has been said that the Ridge area in Delhi is the only area where forests are left in Delhi. In the Ridge area, DDA has felled many trees and constructed a road about ten and a half kilometers long. This road is built from Main Chhatarpur Road to SAARC University.
Let us tell you that on March 04, the Supreme Court had refused to allow DDA to fell 1051 trees. The Supreme Court had said that DDA is a part of the government and it should come forward to save trees. DDA should consider alternative measures to save trees.
