Shimla, September 21 (HS). BJP Scheduled Caste Front National Incharge Social Media Anima Sonkar said in Shimla on Saturday that the history of Congress is against reservation, Constitution and Dr. Ambedkar. She said that Rahul Gandhi has said during his recent US visit that he will “remove reservation”. This is the same tune that Rahul Gandhi's family has been singing since Nehru's era.
Sonkar said that the Congress party ruled the country for 57 years, but during this period it misused the constitutional processes to achieve its political objectives and neglected social objectives. Congress never showed the political will to implement the fundamental reservation principles of the Constitution in true spirit and form.
He said that Jawaharlal Nehru had rejected the Kaka Kalelkar report on reservation for backward classes in 1956. Nehru wrote a letter to the Chief Ministers in 1961 saying that reservation leads to inefficiency and second-class standards. Nehru conspired to end the social and political life of Dr. Ambedkar. He committed the sin of defeating Dr. Ambedkar in the Lok Sabha elections in 1952 and the Lok Sabha by-election in 1954. Prime Minister Narendra Modi did the work of giving social justice and respect to the Scheduled Castes of Jammu and Kashmir after 70 years by abolishing Article 370 and 35A.
Sonkar said that similarly Indira Gandhi crushed the spirit of the Constitution by imposing Emergency in 1975. Indira Gandhi delayed OBC reservation by shelving the Mandal Commission report. From 1966 to 1977, the Constitution was amended 25 times. The 42nd Amendment amended 41 articles and added 11 new articles. After 2014, the Constitution was amended only eight times during Modi's tenure, this was done keeping in mind the interests of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and backward classes.
The BJP leader said that the BJP has always worked for the entire society. Himachal PM Modi government gave constitutional status to the National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC) in 2017. Reservation for economically weaker sections (EWS) was introduced in 2019, amendments were made in the provisions related to Finance Commission and Sixth Schedule of the Constitution in 2019, Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST) reservation in Lok Sabha and Legislative Assemblies was extended for 10 years in 2019. In 2021, states and union territories were given the right to make changes in their OBC list.
