Congress 1 1736670491976 1736734

Congress has made a major change in its strategy after many constituents of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA alliance) supported the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the Delhi Assembly elections. Congress has now adopted an aggressive stance against AAP and started a direct attack. This is an indication that the party is no longer in a mood to make any kind of concession.

Congress steps back from personal attack on Kejriwal

Last week, senior Congress leader Ajay Maken had planned to accuse Arvind Kejriwal of being a traitor. However, Congress canceled this press conference at the last moment.

  • Why was this decision taken?
    • Congress feared that the personal attack on Kejriwal might anger other constituents of the INDIA alliance.
  • outcome:
    • This strategy of the Congress failed, and many parties in the alliance openly supported AAP.
    • After this, Kejriwal targeted the top leadership of Congress including Ashok Gehlot.

Attack on Aam Aadmi Party through video

Congress posted a video on its official social media handles just before the start of the Delhi election campaign.

  • Video included:
    • Along with Rahul Gandhi, AAP is accused of duping the people of Delhi by telling lies.
  • Avoiding personal attacks:
    • Congress is still avoiding personal attacks on Kejriwal.
    • The aim of the party is to convey its message to as many voters as possible.

Clarification on cancellation of press conference

Congress rejected AAP’s charge of canceling Ajay Maken’s press conference, calling it weakness.

  • Congress leader’s statement:

“Cancelling our press conference was not weakness. But AAP tried to make it look so. So we had to change our strategy.”

  • The party has now decided to adopt an aggressive strategy against AAP in election rallies and campaigning.

INDIA alliance constituents support AAP

Many constituent parties have openly supported AAP in the Delhi elections.

  • Samajwadi Party:
    • Akhilesh Yadav supported AAP.
  • Trinamool Congress:
    • Mamata Banerjee gave a statement in favor of AAP, for which Arvind Kejriwal thanked her on social media.
  • Other parties:
    • Other coalition parties have also given statements in support of AAP.

Congress’s new strategy:

  1. Aggressive Promotion:
    • To corner AAP on the issue of corruption and false promises.
  2. Avoiding personal attacks:
    • To avoid the displeasure of the coalition constituents.
  3. Strong Public Relations:
    • To make voters aware against AAP.
