Chandigarh: On the invitation of All India Congress Party, Punjab Congress protested against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Adani and Ambani. After giving a speech at Congress Bhawan, when the protesters moved towards Raj Bhawan, the police strictly stopped them. The Congress workers did not try to violate the police restrictions, but after a few minutes they themselves sat in the police vehicles and agreed to arrest them. About two hundred and fifty workers were present on this occasion, and the impact of Congress’s state level dharna on the local elections was seen.
Prominent leaders of Punjab Congress like former Speaker Rana KP Singh, MLA and former cabinet minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, former ministers Dr. Balbir Singh, Kuljeet Nagra, Sangat Singh Giljian and many former MLAs participated in the protest. However, the absence of Speaker Amarendra Singh Raja Waring as well as sitting MLA and leader of opposition Pratap Singh Bajwa was felt.
On this occasion, Raja Waring said that this protest is not against any particular industrialist, but against the promotion of only two industrialists by the Central Government. He also said that Rahul Gandhi has clarified that he is not against industrialists, but against the system under which Prime Minister Narendra Modi is only encouraging Adani and Ambani.
Raja Waring also strongly criticized Punjab’s law and order situation, saying that the increasing cases of bomb blasts seem to indicate that the dark days of terrorism have returned to Punjab. He alleged that the situation in the state has become so serious that even police stations are being attacked with bombs, and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has failed to maintain law and order.
Condemning the incident of stopping candidates from filing nomination papers for the Municipal Corporation elections in Patiala, he said that those who talk about protecting democracy are themselves killing democracy. Waring expressed confidence that the public will teach him a lesson in the elections. The protest was also addressed by Rana KP Singh, Kuljeet Nagra and other leaders.
