Congress workers performed Dudhbhishek of Mother Ganga, celebrated the anniversary of declaring it as the national river.

Varanasi, 04 November (HS). Congress workers on Monday performed Dugdha Abhishek of Mother Ganga amidst Vedic chanting of Mother Ganga at the ancient Shitala Ghat. On the anniversary of declaration of Mother Ganga as the national river, the Congress leaders gathered at the ghat duly worshiped Mother Ganga and wished for the happiness and prosperity of the people of Kashi. During this, the party's Metropolitan President Raghavendra Choubey said that like the national flag, the national river Mother Ganga should be given due respect.

He said that Congress Party is the true well-wisher of the country's traditions and heritage. Whenever the opportunity arose, the party proved it through its actions. Metropolitan General Secretary and coordinator of the program Pramod Verma said that the present government is playing with the name of faith. By running a cruise in front of the real sons of Ganga (Nishads) of Kashi, a crisis of livelihood is being created. The contract to pollute the Ganga is being given to cruise operators. Other speakers said that for the continuity and purity of Mother Ganga, on November 4, 2008, the Union Cabinet under the chairmanship of the then Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh had declared Devanadi Ganga as the national river. The then UPA government fulfilled its promise and increased the prestige of India by declaring Mother Ganga as the national river. District President Rajeshwar Patel, Dr. Rajesh Gupta, Rajkumar Sonkar, Kishan Yadav etc. participated in the Dugdhabhishek program.
