Lucknow, 14 May (HS). Congress Party has raised questions on Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the development works of Varanasi on the issue of cleaning Ganga.
Addressing the press conference at the state Congress headquarters, Congress spokesperson Abhay Dubey said that exactly 10 years ago, Narendra Modi had come to Varanasi to contest his first election. The first sentence he said while filing nomination in April 2014 was that Mother Ganga has called me and he had made big promises to Kashi for cleaning Mother Ganga. Then he told the people of Kashi that I have come to convert Kashi into Kyoto. He also said that he will build a port in Varanasi which will provide employment to thousands of people.
The Prime Minister then adopted many villages under the Adarsh Gram Yojana and made many lofty promises like providing water, roads, toilets, housing to all, etc. in those villages. Today after 10 years, Modi is again filing his nomination from Varanasi. Everyone knows the difference between the reality of Modi's promises and not the cleaning of Ganga. Today again he appealed to Mother Ganga.
Congress spokesperson said that recently Allahabad High Court has made serious comments on the BJP government regarding the cleaning of Ganga. The court has said that “they are not cleaning or do not want to clean.” “Even before this, the Supreme Court had made a serious comment saying that not even a single drop of Ganga is clean. In January 2024, the court said that Magh Mela is starting, the water of Ganga is dirty, the water from the drains is going directly into the Ganga. On this, the government itself told the court that 40 percent of sewer water is still released directly into the Ganga.
Abhay Dubey said that Modi is showering thousands of flowers on himself, his adopted villages are shedding tears over their plight. Modi had promised that we will bring Gram Swaraj, there will be houses for all, after that he had said empowerment through information i.e. all gram panchayats will be connected with Wi-Fi, sewerage lines will be laid in all villages and said that robust road connectivity. Will happen.
Recently, journalists visited the village adopted by Modi and found that the people of the village are in need of even drinking water. Private people sell water for Rs 100 each, and that too they have to drink after filtering it through a cloth. No one made tea from gutter gas but many lost their lives.
Even after 10 years of PM Modi, the condition of sewers and drains of Varanasi is not good. Locals in Varanasi report that more than 25 people have lost their lives due to the practice of manual scavenging. Why could Prime Minister Modi not end the practice of manual scavenging in his own constituency even after 10 years of launching the Swachh Bharat Yojana?
Neither education nor health, nor extended hand for progress
Congress spokesperson said that after being MP and Prime Minister for 10 years, Varanasi did not get a single new government hospital. Nor has it got even a single new Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya or Kendriya Vidyalaya. The population of the district may have increased by an estimated 15-20 percent or 6 lakh new residents in the last decade. Where are the new schools and additional hospital beds needed for this population increase? Why has the Prime Minister neglected these basic needs of his voters?
