News India Live, Digital Desk: Savarkar Defamation Case: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is surrounded in continuous legal matters these days and in this sequence he had to appear in a defamation case related to Veer Savarkar in a Pune court today. Savarkar’s follower Anand Dave has filed this defamation case against Rahul Gandhi. During the court hearing, Rahul Gandhi dismissed all the allegations leveled against him and described himself as innocent. He strongly stated that the matter is inspired by political maliciousness and he is completely innocent.

The entire controversy began with Rahul Gandhi’s speech in Bangalore, Karnataka in 2018. At that time, Rahul Gandhi in his speech compared Veer Savarkar to the British servant. He also alleged that Savarkar used to take money from the British, causing a lot of anger among Savarkar’s supporters. Anand Dave has filed this criminal defamation suit under Section 500 (Defamation) and Section 501 (deliberately printing false news) of the Indian Penal Code on the basis of this speech.

After hearing the court, Rahul Gandhi granted bail on a personal bond of Rs 15,000, which has given him a big relief at the moment. During this period, many big leaders of the Congress, including former Maharashtra Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, senior leaders Balasaheb Thorat and Vishwajit Kadam, were present in the court premises in support of Rahul Gandhi. The next hearing of the case is now to be held on October 28. Significantly, another case related to defamation, in which Rahul Gandhi was convicted, is also going on in Surat. The Supreme Court recently gave him a big relief by stopping his sentence in the case, which could restore his Parliament membership.
