Chandauli, May 29 (HS). Congress was once in a strong position in Purvanchal's important Chandauli seat. Congress has won this seat four times in the 16 elections held so far. But it has not won in the last 40 years. In the last six and a half decades, its vote share has also dropped from 58 percent to 3 percent. Let us tell you, in the last 6 elections, Congress candidates have failed to save their deposits.
Congress won the first two elections
The first election for Chandauli seat was held in 1957. In this election, Tribhuvan Singh of Congress won. After this, in the 1957 election, Balkrishna Singh of Congress captured the seat. In the election held in 1967 for the fourth Lok Sabha, the victory chariot of Congress was stopped by Nihal Singh of Samyukta Socialist Party (SSP). Congress candidate Tribhuvan Singh had to face defeat.
Returned with victory in 1971
In the 1971 elections for the fifth Lok Sabha, Sudhakar Pandey of the Congress won. But in 1977, in the anti-Congress wave, Narsingh of Bharatiya Lok Dal (BLD) won from Chandauli and reached Delhi.
Defeat in 1980 and victory in 1984

In the elections of 1991, 96 and 98, the Congress candidate failed to save even his deposit. In all three elections, Congress came fourth. In the 1999 general election for the 13th Lok Sabha, Congress did not field its candidate in Chandauli.
