Congress won the first two elections

The first election for Chandauli seat was held in 1957. In this election, Tribhuvan Singh of Congress won. After this, in the 1957 election, Balkrishna Singh of Congress captured the seat. In the election held in 1967 for the fourth Lok Sabha, the victory chariot of Congress was stopped by Nihal Singh of Samyukta Socialist Party (SSP). Congress candidate Tribhuvan Singh had to face defeat.

Returned with victory in 1971

In the 1971 elections for the fifth Lok Sabha, Sudhakar Pandey of the Congress won. But in 1977, in the anti-Congress wave, Narsingh of Bharatiya Lok Dal (BLD) won from Chandauli and reached Delhi.

Defeat in 1980 and victory in 1984

After the crushing defeat in 1977, she could not recover from the defeat even in the 1980 elections. In this election, Janta Party's Nihal Singh defeated Congress candidate Upendra Pratap. In the 1984 elections, Chanda Tripathi returned with victory on a Congress ticket. She was pitted against Nihal Singh of Indian Congress (J).

In the 2004 general elections, Congress candidate Kailash Singh came fourth with 6.79 percent votes. This election was won by BSP's Kailash Nath Singh Yadav. In the 2009 elections, Congress candidate Shailendra Kumar came third with 14.51 percent vote share. SP's Ramkishun Yadav won the election.
