Congress demanded special state status for Chhattisgarh

Raipur, July 11 (HS). A Congress delegation on Thursday demanded from the Central Finance Commission to give Chhattisgarh the status of a special state and increase the state's share in financial resources. After the meeting today, the delegation gave 21 point suggestions in the form of a written report to the members of the Central Finance Commission who reached Raipur. The State Congress Party demanded GST compensation, special state, relief package for malnutrition, special package for the agriculture sector, special package for the betterment of health and education of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes, special package for setting up new industries, IT hub and wholesale corridor in Nava Raipur and special package for Aero City.

Congress said that tribal population of 30 percent, Scheduled Caste population of more than 12 percent and large population of other backward classes, malnutrition, health and education related challenges in tribal areas and Naxalite situation in interior areas can be overcome by comprehensive infrastructure development, so a special package should be provided for the rapid development of various infrastructure. Along with this, help is needed for expansion till Bilaspur, Bastar, Surguja, and for setting up of IT hub in Chhattisgarh. Due to climatic reasons, cost of agriculture is high and production is low in Chhattisgarh, hence farmers should get incentive help. Congress has demanded a special relief package to promote solar energy and to make it available to the masses. Along with this, relief package was also demanded for new hospitals for health facilities for women and children, and for preparing new grounds at every block level to promote sports. Congress said that special assistance is needed for research for sickle cell, help to the affected families and for development of infrastructure.

The Congress delegation said that due to large mineral production in Chhattisgarh, the minerals here are exported to many countries including Japan and many states of the country and Chhattisgarh has to bear the loss of being a mineral producing state. In view of this, it is necessary to ensure justice with Chhattisgarh. Chhattisgarh Congress demanded that the Finance Commission should give special state status to Chhattisgarh and recommend a special assistance package for Chhattisgarh.
