Dehradun, 18 November (HS). The Congress delegation, led by co-incharge Surendra Sharma, met Assistant Chief Electoral Officer Uttarakhand Mastu Das at the Secretariat on Monday and submitted a memorandum to him. Congress says that BJP is misusing the government machinery to win the elections and is trying to influence the elections by giving inducements to woo the voters.
The Congress delegation has alleged distribution of liquor, money, utensils, dholak, tongs and other materials in the entire assembly constituency on behalf of BJP leaders. Congress says that any kind of irregularities will not be tolerated in the elections. Party workers will remain alert at every booth and will make every possible effort to maintain transparency in the election process.
Attacking the BJP, co-in-charge Surendra Sharma said that the state government is making every possible effort to influence the by-elections. Congress has taken the matter to the state Chief Electoral Officer and the Election Commission of India. The party wants the Election Commission to ensure fair elections.
State Congress senior vice president Suryakant Dhasmana said senior Congress leaders, who are not Kedarnath voters, will leave the area and stay in Rudraprayag. Local party workers have been instructed to keep an eye on every booth and immediately report any irregularities to the Election Commission.
The delegation included Surendra Sharma, Senior Vice President Suryakant Dhasmana, former minister Heera Singh Bisht, Congress Intellectual Cell President Pradeep Joshi, Metropolitan Congress President Jaswinder Singh Jogi, Naveen Joshi, Jagdish Dhiman and Abhinav Thapar.
