Guwahati, June 27 (HS). Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has criticized the Congress party for reappointing Sam Pitroda as the President of the Indian Overseas Congress. The Chief Minister today strongly condemned the Congress party for reappointing Sam Pitroda as the President of the Indian Overseas Congress.
In his post, the Chief Minister said, “Congress can never improve. The Prime Minister has already made the country aware of the deceptive policies and intentions of the Congress. As soon as the elections were over, the main advisors of this family (Congress), who had spoken ill of the people of Northeast India, returned home.”
Assam Pradesh BJP has also condemned this decision of the Congress party. BJP accused Congress of lack of integrity. BJP said in a social media post, “When Sam Pitroda made a controversial statement against the sentiments of the country, Congress washed its hands of it by creating a spectacle.” BJP said in the statement, “The person who called the people of the Northeast Chinese was quietly reinstated to his previous post as soon as the elections were over.”
It is noteworthy that Sam Pitroda resigned from the post of President of the Indian Overseas Congress on 8 May, after a controversy arose due to his comparison of Indians from different regions with other ethnic groups. His comments, especially comparing people from the Northeast to the Chinese and people from the South to Africans, were strongly criticized by the BJP. Due to this, the BJP termed him as racist and divisive. After widespread reaction, the Congress party distanced itself from Pitroda's statements and called them unacceptable.
