Bhopal, March 27 (HS). Congress Party has declared the names of its candidates for three seats in Madhya Pradesh for the Lok Sabha elections. In the list released late on Wednesday night, Congress has made former Vidisha MP Pratapbhanu Sharma its candidate. Whereas, ticket has been given to Rao Yadvendra Singh Yadav from Guna and Tarwar Singh Lodhi from Damoh.

Congress National General Secretary KC Venugopal has released the eighth list of candidates for the Lok Sabha elections late on Wednesday night. In this list, names of candidates have been declared for a total of 14 Lok Sabha seats from four states. Names of three candidates from Madhya Pradesh have been declared in this list.

Congress has made Pratapbhanu Sharma its candidate from Vidisha. He has been MP from Vidisha twice. He will face five-time MP from Vidisha and former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan. After former Vidisha MLA Shashank Bhargava joining BJP, there was a possibility that the party might field Pratapbhanu Sharma. He had recently met State Congress President Jitu Patwari, after which he put forward Sharma's name, which was approved by the top leadership of the party.

Whereas in Guna, Congress has fielded Rao Yadvendra Singh Yadav against BJP candidate Jyotiraditya Scindia. He recently joined Congress before the assembly elections. The party had also made him contest the assembly elections from Mungawali, but he was defeated. Keeping in view the caste equations, the party is betting on OBCs from Guna. Former State Congress President Arun Yadav had staked claim from here, but there was no consensus on his name at the local level.

Here, keeping in mind the caste equations, Tarwar Singh has fielded Lodhi from Damoh also. Tarwar has been MLA from Banda of Sagar. BJP has made Rahul Singh Lodhi its candidate from Damoh. Rahul was elected MLA from Damoh on Congress ticket. Then he took membership of Bharatiya Janata Party and was defeated by Ajay Kumar Tandon in the by-election. In the 2023 elections, BJP had nominated its senior leader Jayant Malaiya in his place, who was victorious.

Congress has so far declared its candidates on 25 out of 29 seats in Madhya Pradesh, while one seat has been left for the Samajwadi Party under the Khajuraho Agreement. Candidates are yet to be declared on three seats.
