Chandigarh: Former state president of Punjab Congress Navjot Singh Sidhu has made it clear that he will not contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Sidhu says that if he had to go to Lok Sabha, he would not have contested elections from Kurukshetra. This announcement by Sidhu is going to increase Congress's concerns because Congress was preparing to field Sidhu from Patiala Lok Sabha seat. Because Sidhu's relations with the Congress leaders of the state are not good. The state Congress wanted Sidhu to focus on his seat if he contested from Patiala.
It is important to mention here that Sidhu does not get along with Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Waring and opposition leader Pratap Singh Bajwa. This is the reason why the executive meeting of Punjab Congress was held on February 11, in which the party's national president Mallikarjun Kharge also attended, but Sidhu was not invited.
After Sushil Rinku in Jalandhar, Gurpreet Singh GP from Fatehgarh Sahib and now Dr. Rajkumar Chabewal left Congress and joined Aam Aadmi Party. The former President said that a person's character comes to the fore only in difficult times. Sidhu also said in a poetic manner, 'There must have been some compulsions, no one is unfaithful by choice.'
However, after leaving Congress, when party leaders questioned Raja Waring's leadership, Sidhu said, 'What is the responsibility of the state president in this? Riders are responsible for their own luggage. Sidhu said that Raja Waring is also the president of Navjot Singh Sidhu. At the same time, Sidhu sarcastically said that what would happen if these people left when the Captain left. Sidhu was talking to journalists after meeting Governor Banwari Lal Purohit on Friday.
Let us tell you that in 2014, when BJP had decided to make the then Finance Minister Arun Jaitley its candidate from Amritsar, Sidhu was the BJP MP from Amritsar. BJP had proposed him to contest elections from Kurukshetra. Which Sidhu did not accept. Due to his withdrawal from the Amritsar election, Sidhu did not even participate in the election campaign of his political guru Arun Jaitley. Later BJP sent Sidhu to Rajya Sabha but he joined Congress party.
