At least 78 people have died after a boat capsized in Lake Kivu in the central African country of Congo on Thursday. There were 278 people on the boat. However, the death toll may increase. People who had seen it earlier said that there were more tourists on the boat than its capacity. So this big accident happened due to the negligence of the boat owner and managers.
The boat sank a short distance from Kituku port in the eastern part of Congo. 100 meters before reaching the port, the boat overturned and the people on board were trapped in the water. The boat that met with the accident was heading from Minova in South Kivu province to North Goma. As soon as it reached Goma coast, the boat crashed and sank. A video of the incident has surfaced on social media, in which the boat is first seen leaning to one side and later sinking in the deep water of the lake.
