Saharsa, 23 June (HS). The Forest and Environment and Climate Change Department is orienting biodiversity management committees regarding the increase in temperature due to global warming. Forest Division Extension Officer Pratik Anand gave this information to media personnel in his office on Sunday.
He informed that a conference of Biodiversity Management Committees is being organized at block and district level through video conferencing on June 25 under the chairmanship of Dr Prem Kumar, Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Department. In this program, the minister will address the Biodiversity Management Committees constituted in Gram Panchayat, Block Panchayat Committee and District Council.
He said that all the forest division officers and all the district Panchayat Raj officers will participate in the conference. The Principal Chief Forest Conservator of Bihar and senior forest officers and the Chairman, Secretary and senior officers of Bihar State Biodiversity Council will participate in the program.
He said that the role of biodiversity and environmental conservation is important in balancing development processes. Active participation of local Panchayati Raj administration is essential in ensuring the interests of biodiversity conservation at the regional level. For this purpose, under the three-tier Panchayat system under the Biodiversity Act 2002, Biodiversity Management Committees have been formed in 8058 Gram Panchayats, 534 blocks, 38 districts and 35 municipal bodies in the current state.
The Forest Division Extension Officer informed that a People's Biodiversity Register is maintained in every Panchayat. It contains details of trees, plants, herbs, grass, agricultural products, horticulture, animal and other aquatic products and natural forest area. In this first conference, topics related to conservation, sustainable use and regulation of commercial use of biological resources found in the area will be highlighted. Along with this, discussions will be held on strengthening the committees formed at the district block and Panchayat level and ensuring their participation in biodiversity conservation.
