A survey was conducted by the National Family Health Department in 2021-22. The survey found that Dadra Nagar Haveli is the only place in India where people understand the importance of condoms and more people buy condoms here than any other state in India. According to the report, out of 10 thousand couples in Dadra Nagar Haveli, 993 couples use condoms while having sex. In this survey, 10 thousand couples of different age groups from every state have been talked to.
Andhra Pradesh comes second in the list. Where 978 couples out of 10 thousand use condoms. Whereas Karnataka is ranked 15th. In this state, only 307 couples out of 10 thousand use condoms.
The report states that 6 percent people in India do not even know about condoms. 94 percent people know about condoms.
On an average, 33.07 crore condoms are purchased every year in India. If we talk about the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, then 5.3 crore condoms are consumed here every year. This figure is much higher than other states. The population of UP is expected to cross 22 crores by the end of 2024. Condoms are sold free of cost in the health centers and government hospitals here.
However, according to the survey, the use of condoms is decreasing. Only 960 couples out of 10,000 in Puducherry, 895 in Punjab, 822 in Chandigarh, 685 in Haryana use condoms during sex. 567 in Himachal Pradesh, 514 in Rajasthan and 430 in Gujarat use condoms.
