Amidst the increasing violence and crisis in Haiti, the US Army has started a campaign to recall many employees of its embassy located there. This step of America has been taken in view of increasing violence, threats against the government and large number of migrants.
Earlier this month, armed groups planned to break into Haiti's two largest prisons. Due to which thousands of prisoners escaped from jail. Meanwhile the armed group also demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Ariel Henry. Haiti's prime minister has fled the country and is pleading with the international community for intervention by UN-backed security forces.
US Southern Command issued a statement
The US Southern Command has clarified that the mission to recall the embassy staff is only for security reasons. Airlifting personnel in and out of embassies is consistent with our standard practice of enhancing the security of embassies around the world, he said, and no Haitian civilians were aboard the military aircraft.
The EU delegation has also temporarily reduced its presence in Haiti due to security concerns. According to sources, the embassies of Germany and the European Union are also removing their employees from here.
