Complete these 5 important tasks before Navratri starts, otherwise there may be a big hindrance in Ghatasthapana and worship of Maa Durga.

In Sanatan Dharma, the nine days of worship of Shakti Swarupa Maa Adishakti Bhagwati Durga are considered extremely sacred, energetic and beneficial. In this great festival which lasts for nine days, devotees take a pledge to fast by setting up Ghatasthapana i.e. Kalash and worship nine different forms of Mother Goddess by lighting unbroken flame. There is a clear mention in the scriptures and Vaastu science that Goddess Durga resides only in those places where there is an environment of complete purity, purity and discipline. Often people remain busy in preparations till the morning of the first day of Navratri, due to which there is a delay in performing Ghatasthapana at the auspicious time or some essential material of puja is left behind. According to religious beliefs, incomplete preparation or inaccuracy of worship can create obstacles in the sadhana. If you also wish for Mother Ambe’s immense blessings, happiness, peace and prosperity in your home, then complete these 5 major tasks in time before Pratipada Tithi i.e. the first day of Navratri.

At least a day before the start of Navratri, clean every corner of the house properly. Specially wash the place of worship and the temple and bathe all the idols and idols of God with Ganga water or Panchamrit and dress them in new clothes. According to Vastu Shastra, Goddess Lakshmi and Maa Durga enter the main door of the house, hence do not leave any kind of garbage, old broken shoes, slippers or cobwebs in front of the door. After cleaning, expel negative energy by sprinkling Ganga water throughout the house, especially in the entrance and Ishaan corner (north-east direction). Tying a garland of fresh mango or Ashoka leaves at the main gate i.e. making a swastika with turmeric and kumkum is considered to be the most auspicious sign of welcoming Goddess Bhagwati.

During Navratri, it is mandatory to have a complete Satvik atmosphere in the house for nine days. Before starting the fast, clean the kitchen thoroughly and remove onions, garlic, non-vegetarian food, stale grains or any kind of intoxicants from the house completely. If you are going to fast for nine days, then prepare a separate box of rock salt, buckwheat flour, water chestnut flour, sago, makhana and pure spices used during the fast. Make sure that the utensils used for preparing fasting food are completely clean and are kept separate from the utensils used for cooking normal food. This purification prepares both your mind and body for sadhana.

Ghatasthapana is always done in the auspicious Choghadiya or Abhijeet Muhurta as per the scriptures, which is often for a very limited time. In such a situation, if the material is searched early in the morning on the first day, there is a fear of missing the auspicious time. Therefore, a day before, buy an earthen pot or a copper-brass pot, a wide earthen pot for sowing barley (sorghum), clean sifted field or fertile soil, coired coconut, red Kalava (Mauli), five or seven mango leaves, Ganga water, Roli, Akshat, betel nut, cloves, cardamom, camphor, incense sticks, pure desi ghee, havan material and the new red chunri of Mata Rani and keep it at a safe place. This prior preparation of ingredients helps you maintain mental concentration at the time of puja.

If there is a tradition in your house of lighting the Akhand Jyoti for the entire nine days of Navratri, then do not rush in preparing for it. Clean and dry the large brass or clay lamp beforehand. For Akhand Jyoti, prepare a thick and long wick of Kalave (cotton thread) in advance so that there is no risk of changing the wick or extinguishing it in between. Along with this, make arrangements for a glass chimney (lamp cover) to protect the lamp from gusts of wind. Bring and keep sufficient quantity of pure desi cow ghee or sesame oil in advance for the nine days of puja. It is believed in the scriptures that extinguishing the eternal flame midway is inauspicious, hence strong arrangements made in advance save us from this crisis.

According to Hindu Sanatan traditions, getting hair cut, beard shaving and nail cutting is considered completely prohibited for the devotees observing fast during the holy days of Navratri. In the scriptures, these nine days are considered a period of penance and restraint, in which there is a rule to abstain from physical adornment and cutting and carving of body parts. Therefore, if you have to get a haircut or shave and clean your nails, then complete this work before the morning of Ghatasthapana. Apart from this, before installing the Kalash, make a mental resolution that during these nine days you will stay away from anger, discord, lies and condemnation of anyone and will follow celibacy. When both your external and internal preparations are complete, only then the worship of Goddess Durga will be fruitful and happiness and prosperity will reside in your life.
