Rise in vegetable prices: The prices of vegetables and pulses are increasing continuously since the last one month. The price of garlic has crossed Rs. 400 per kg. Due to this increase in prices, essential items are slowly disappearing from the kitchen. First onion, potato, tomato and now garlic. Apart from this, the price of green chilli and coriander which were once available free on vegetable carts, was Rs. 100. It has crossed Rs. 100. Green chilli is also being sold at Rs. 120 per kg, Rs. 10 more expensive.

Due to the price of garlic increasing several times, it has become difficult for housewives to buy garlic, the working class has been forced to eat plain roti. They mostly used to eat rotla with garlic-red chilli chutney. Due to the skyrocketing price of garlic in the retail market, its demand in the market has decreased.

The prices of other vegetables also increased

Apart from garlic, the price of potatoes is Rs 20 per kg. 50-60 per kg. Onion is also being sold at the same price. The prices of green vegetables including cluster bean, pigeon pea, brinjal, choli, phulwar have also doubled.

Farmers turned away from garlic cultivation

The price of garlic has been increasing continuously for the last two-three years. Due to which there is no demand in the market. Due to many reasons like low demand of garlic, weather conditions, not getting proper compensation for crop cost, farmers have turned away from garlic cultivation. Prakashbhai of Kothara said that the price of garlic in the retail market has increased from Rs 4500 to Rs 5500 per 20 kg. Due to skyrocketing prices of garlic in vegetable markets, the purchase of garlic is decreasing a lot and only enough garlic is ordered for consumption.
