Colin Munro re-signs with Brisbane Heat until 2026

Brisbane, July 2 (HS). Big Bash League (BBL) team Brisbane Heat has re-signed former New Zealand batsman Colin Munro for two seasons. The club made the announcement on Tuesday.

Munro, who retired from international cricket earlier this year after failing to find a spot in New Zealand's T20 World Cup squad, has played 428 T20 matches across various competitions and scored 10,961 runs at a strike rate of 141.25, including five centuries and 67 half-centuries.

The 37-year-old is set for his third season with the Heat and is the fourth BBL player to be signed under new rules that allow each club to sign one international player on a multi-year deal ahead of the overseas player draft.

Munro, who was a member of the Perth Scorchers' 2021-22 BBL title-winning side, has played the last two seasons with the Heat and scored 502 runs with blazing knocks of 98 and an unbeaten 99. In both seasons he left early to join the Desert Vipers in the UAE-based ILT20, but his new Heat deal will ensure Munro is available for all BBL matches, including the final.

England international and former Heat star Sam Billings will join Sydney Thunder next season, while Heat cult hero and last season's finals hero Josh Brown will join the Melbourne Renegades.

Munro will lead the Heat's strong line-up along with Australians Usman Khawaja and Matt Renshaw.

The Heat have a new coach for next season in Johan Botha, who replaces Wade Seccombe.
