Cold wave wreaks havoc in Ranchi and Kanke, yellow alert issued

Ranchi. The cold is continuously increasing in the surrounding areas including Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand. The temperature in Ranchi has gone below 9 degrees Celsius, while the temperature in Kanke has fallen to 4.2 degrees Celsius. According to the Meteorological Department, the effect of cold wave will continue in Dhanbad, Bokaro, and Ramgarh till Saturday. People may have to face strong winds and severe cold.

Temperature will drop further on Saturday

The temperature in Ranchi may drop to 8 degrees Celsius on Saturday. Due to increasing cold in Kanke, people have started hiding in their homes after 6 pm. Meteorologists estimate that the temperature of Kanke may fall by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius in the next two-three days.

The weather remained dry across the state in the last 24 hours.

  • Highest maximum temperature: 29 °C (Chaibasa)
  • Lowest minimum temperature: 7.9 °C (Daltonganj)

Meteorologist Abhishek Anand said that the cold havoc will continue for the next few days and there is no hope of relief from it soon. He has advised people to use warm clothes in their homes. There is a possibility of fog in the morning and evening in Ranchi and surrounding districts in the coming days.

Sheet of snow on the grass in Kanka

The effect of cold is more visible in Kanke and McCluskieganj. The minimum temperature here was recorded at 5 degrees Celsius on Friday. According to the Meteorological Department report, dew drops in Kanke and McCluskieganj have now started appearing like a sheet of snow on the grasses and bushes.

Fog and slight relief in McCluskieganj

There is a dense fog in McCluskieganj in the morning, but after the sun comes out, people get some relief. However, there is no feeling of heat in the sun. As the evening approaches, the chill increases, due to which people are heading home early. School children are facing the most problems due to cold.

Yellow alert for cold wave on 14th December

The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert of cold wave in many parts of Jharkhand on 14 December. Temperatures are likely to drop in the affected districts.

Cold wave affected districts:

  • North-Eastern Jharkhand:
    • Deoghar, Dumka, Godda, Pakur, Jamtara, Giridih, Dhanbad, Sahibganj
  • Western Jharkhand:
    • Palamu, Garhwa, Chatra, Koderma, Latehar, Lohardaga

Due to continuous drop in temperature, common people are facing a lot of problems due to cold.
