Mumbai: A scam has come to light that several cocktail parties have been organized on the basis of fake permits in posh societies of Andheri, Mumbai. Investigation by the Excise Department revealed that fake permits were issued to residents of these societies by persons claiming to be agents of the Excise Department.
The excise department found out that eight parties were organized in these societies between February and December last year. All these parties were held on the basis of fake permits for one day. In this regard, a complaint has been registered against this person at Oshiwara Police Station for defrauding the government and forging documents by Excise Department officials.
Excise department officials received information that fake one-day permits were being issued to residents in several HiFi societies in Andheri and Jogeshwari areas, and on the basis of which liquor was being sold at parties.
Upon investigation, the department found that such fake permits were issued to some residents of a building named Windsor Grand on Andheri-Malad Link Road.
Further investigation revealed that a person named Vinay was contacting people of these societies and posing as an agent of the Excise Department to issue permits. He took money from these residents and issued fake permits. However, residents of the societies also organized liquor parties, assuming they had genuine permits.
The Excise Department and the police are currently investigating where parties were held on the basis of such fake permits.
