New Delhi, April 5 (Hindustan Reporter) The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has rescued 27 Bangladeshi fishermen stranded on their fishing boat in the sea and handed them over to Bangladesh along the India-Bangladesh International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL). During investigation, it was found that the steering gear of the boat was out of order for the last two days and since then the boat was drifting in Indian waters.
Indian Coast Guard Ship Amogh, while patrolling around 11.30 pm on Thursday, sighted a Bangladeshi fishing boat (BFB) Sagar II drifting in Indian waters. On this, the ICG ship landed a boarding team for investigation. There were 27 crew and fishermen on board the boat. The Indian Coast Guard technical team identified the fault and tried to repair it, but the hull of the boat was completely damaged, so it could not be repaired at sea.
Subsequently, it was decided to tow the distressed boat to India-Bangladesh IMBL and hand it over to another Bangladeshi fishing boat or Bangladesh Coast Guard ship. Meanwhile, Indian Coast Guard Regional Headquarters in Kolkata established communication with Bangladesh Coast Guard and informed them. Bangladesh deployed its coast guard ship Kamruzzaman to tow the Bangladeshi fishing boat. On this, BCG ship Kamruzzaman reached IMBL at around 06.45 hrs on 4th April. ICGS Amogh handed over 27 Bangladeshi fishermen along with their boat to BCG Ship Kamruzzaman.
