New Delhi, September 02 (HS). In the first five months (April-August) of the current financial year 2024-25, coal production in the country has increased by 6.48 percent (384 metric tonnes) to 38 crore 40.8 lakh tonnes. In the same period of the previous financial year 2023-24, coal production was 36 crore 7.1 lakh tonnes.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Coal Ministry said that the total coal production in the country has achieved a significant increase, which has been 384.08 million tonnes (MT) till August 2024 in the current financial year 2024-25, as against 360.71 MT during the same period in the previous financial year 2023-24, showing an increase of 6.48 per cent.
According to the ministry, the production of Coal India (CIL), which contributes more than 80 per cent of domestic coal production, increased to 29 crore 3.9 lakh tonnes (290.39 metric tonnes) during the April-August period of FY 2024-25, an increase of 3.17 per cent year-on-year. Apart from this, coal production from private and other units has increased from 5 crore 28.4 lakh tonnes (52.84 metric tonnes) a year ago to 6 crore 89.9 lakh tonnes (68.99 metric tonnes) during April-August, 2024, which is a substantial increase of 30.56 per cent.
According to the Ministry of Coal, the cumulative coal dispatch till August has been 41 crore 20.7 lakh tonnes in the current financial year as against 39 crore 19.3 lakh tonnes in the same period of the previous financial year. This increase highlights the enhanced logistics capabilities of the coal sector and its commitment to ensure uninterrupted supply of coal.
