New Delhi, 03 October (HIST). There has been an increase in coal production and dispatch from both captive and commercial coal blocks in the country during the first half of the current financial year 2024-25 from April 1, 2024 to September 30, 2024 as compared to the same period of the previous financial year 2023-24. . In the first half, coal production has increased by 32 percent on an annual basis while coal dispatch has registered a growth of 34 percent.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Coal Ministry said that coal production from captive and commercial coal blocks in the first half of the current financial year 2024-25 increased by 32 per cent year-on-year to 79.72 metric tonnes (MT), which was 79.72 metric tonnes (MT) in the last financial year 2023-25. In the first half of '24 was 60.52 MT. Similarly, coal dispatch from both the coal blocks has also registered an increase of 34 percent on an annual basis, which has increased from 65.37 metric tons in the first half of the last financial year to 87.86 metric tons in the first half of the financial year 2024-25.
According to the ministry, there has been a significant increase in coal production and dispatch from both captive and commercial coal blocks. Apart from this, there has been an increase of 32 percent in coal production in the month of September, which has increased from 10.40 metric tons in the financial year 2023-24 to 13.74 metric tons in the current financial year 2024-25. Similarly, in the month of September, the dispatch of coal has increased by 47 percent on an annual basis, which has increased from 9.68 metric tons in the financial year 2023-24 to 14.27 metric tons in the current financial year 2024-25.
The Coal Ministry has appreciated the invaluable support and tireless efforts of all stakeholders including coal companies and industry partners for this achievement. The ministry said its primary objective is to significantly increase coal production while ensuring a stable and reliable supply to meet the country's growing energy demands. The ministry aims to increase efficiency, sustainability and production in the coal sector.
