New Delhi: Three students died due to waterlogging in a coaching centre running in the basement of Rajendra Nagar in Delhi. The Delhi High Court took the police and administration to task for this incident. Now the Supreme Court has also taken cognizance of the matter through suo moto and has issued notice to the central and state governments and sought a reply. It was also said that these places have become wells of death.
The bench of Supreme Court Justice Suryakant and Justice Ujjwal Bhuiyan said that everyone is saddened by the current incident in the national capital.
The bench said that this place (coaching center) has become a chamber of death. Till the time the rules are not followed, coaching institutes can be operated online. Coaching centers are playing with the lives of students coming from different parts of the country.
At present, the Supreme Court has sent a notice to the Central Government and the Delhi Government in this matter and sought a reply. What are the rules for coaching centers, if any, and are they implemented. These rules should be followed properly, from the movement of students to proper ventilation of the premises. The Delhi High Court ordered the closure of any coaching center that does not follow the rules, a petition challenging this order was filed in the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court dismissed the petition and imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the petitioner.
