Punjab News: There was a clash between farmers and police in Malerkotla over land acquisition for the Jammu-Katra Expressway. The farmers broke the police barricades. After this the situation became tense here. The administration had acquired the land here on Tuesday. On Wednesday, members of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ugrahan) came to protest. They also pushed away the tippers brought by the police. Now they have started fencing the land.

A high level meeting was held in Delhi on Wednesday evening under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding this matter. In this, the PM ordered to expedite the project. On the other hand, the Punjab and Haryana High Court is also strict about land acquisition. In a recent hearing, the High Court has asked the Punjab government to complete the process of land acquisition within two weeks. In this matter, the Punjab government has to file a reply in the High Court on September 6.

As soon as the Prime Minister's Office held a meeting regarding the NHAI projects, the Punjab government also became active. A letter was written to DGP Gaurav Yadav by Chief Secretary Anurag Verma. He wrote in the letter that the Prime Minister will review the progress of the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway on August 28.

On reviewing with the Deputy Commissioners in this regard, it was found that two very small but important roads at Malerkotla (a distance of 1.34 km) and Kapurthala (a distance of about 1.25 km) are to be occupied. This has to be taken up by 27 August 2024. In such a situation, police force should be made available at both the places.
