New Delhi/Jaipur, 17 February (HIST). After the revised PKC-ERCP link project, another historic decision has been taken on the initiative of Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat towards providing water to many other districts of Rajasthan. From Hathnikund Barrage of Haryana, soon Churu, Sikar, Jhunjhunu and other districts of Rajasthan will get not only drinking water but also water for irrigation. Shekhawat said that an agreement has been reached between Rajasthan and Haryana to prepare a DPR, under which water will be distributed between the two states through underground pipelines.
On Saturday, Union Minister Shekhawat held a meeting with Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar in his office in New Delhi on the project of providing water to Rajasthan from Haryana's Hathini Kund Barrage. He said that many districts of Rajasthan including Churu, Sikar, Jhunjhunu will get its benefit especially in the form of drinking water. A time of four months has been fixed for the process and completion of this DPR. Central Water Commission and Upper Yamuna River Board also participated in this. Shekhawat said that this agreement made under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is historic. This is a strong step towards a concrete and permanent solution to the issue that has been stuck for two decades. It will definitely prove to be a milestone regarding water availability in Rajasthan. He expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Modi. Also thanked Chief Minister Khattar and Chief Minister Bhajan Lal. He said that this has been possible with the spirit of mutual cooperation. This is a historic moment.
After the meeting, while interacting with the media along with Union Minister Shekhawat, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma expressed his gratitude to Union Minister Shekhawat and Haryana Chief Minister Khattar. He said that this was a long pending scheme which was not given due attention because the Congress government does not pay attention to such schemes. Sharma said that there is BJP government in Rajasthan and Haryana. Haryana Chief Minister Khattar cooperated a lot, because three pipelines are to be laid in Rajasthan and one in Haryana. He said that this scheme will solve the problem of drinking water in the districts of Rajasthan. It is noteworthy that on the initiative of Union Minister Shekhawat, an agreement has been reached between Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh regarding the revised PKC-ERCP link project. This link project will provide water to 13 districts of eastern Rajasthan.
In this, Rajasthan and Haryana will jointly prepare DPR. 577 MCM water will be made available to Churu, Sikar, Jhunjhunu and other districts of Rajasthan between July and October through underground pipeline. With this the needs of drinking water and irrigation will be met. Three water storages, Renukli, Lakhwar and Kishau, have been identified in the Upper Yamuna Basin, from where water will be provided to Rajasthan from Hathnikund for a stipulated period. If possible, the needs of drinking water and irrigation will be met in the remaining time period also. As per the MOU of 12 May 1994, the co-basin states are required to create facilities for optimal utilization of Yamuna waters in their respective areas. The Upper Yamuna Review Committee, in its seventh meeting on 15 February 2018, had advised the Rajasthan government to prepare a DPR for transfer of water from Tajewala head of Yamuna from Haryana to Rajasthan, so that water can be made available in Jhunjhunu and Churu districts. Could. Supply of Yamuna water was considered necessary for drinking water supply and other needs in Churu, Sikar, Jhunjhunu and other districts.
